Therapeutic Music
Therapeutic music is not the same thing as music therapy. Certified music practitioners are trained to provide live acoustic bedside music and in-the-moment comfort care to create an environment that is conducive to healing. Grounded in science, therapeutic music eases stress, reduces pain, lowers and stabilizes blood pressure, and more.

What Does a Therapeutic Musician Do?
Therapeutic musicians play live, acoustic music to patients one-on-one at their bedside to create an environment that can be conducive to healing. We choose the music according to the patient’s needs in the moment. As the patient’s needs change, we change the music accordingly.
We work collaboratively with the healthcare facility staff or hospice team, discussing the patient’s condition within HIPAA requirements, and charting the patient’s reactions and results.
Therapeutic musicians are trained to focus on the individual patient we’re serving. We ask nothing from the patient except their permission. We use sound to create a space for the patient where they can let healing occur.

Listen to some Examples of Music
In addition to creating a healing environment for the patient, therapeutic music is often supportive for nursing staff at hospital and care facilities, helping to ease stress. Family members often comment that they feel comfort and relief, as well. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey, also known as HCAHPS®, is a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients' perspectives on hospital care. HCAHPS scores for care are supported and improved at numerous hospitals throughout the USA which employ Certified Music Practitioners.
A Certified Music Practitioner (CMP) is available to provide therapeutic music for one session, or a series of sessions.
Kim has retired as a certified music practitioner. As of December 1, 2025, Kim is available to provide volunteer recreational music for seniors in memory care, and therapeutic bedside music for hoSpice and comfort care.
